2008 Volleyball schedule released
The 2008 schedule for the volleyball team has been released. Northeastern will have a 29-match slate that includes games against nationally ranked teams Nebraska and Cal Poly, as well as trips to South Florida and Syracuse. The Huskies will also host their own tournament, taking on Holy Cross, St. Francis (NY) and Boston College at Solomon Court Sept. 19-20. After finishing second in the CAA last season, the Huskies will play a 14-game conference schedule that culminates with the CAA Championship, which will take place Nov. 21-23.

Cross country schedule released
The 2008 schedule for the men's track team and women's track team has been released. The Huskies start off the 2008 season at the Blue Devil Invitational at Central Connecticut State University on Sept. 6. The George Mason Invitational, which takes place Oct. 4 will serve as a preview for the CAA Championship which is scheduled for Oct. 31. The Huskies' only home meet will be the New England Championship at Franklin Park on Saturday, October 11.

Zara Northover to compete in Olympics
Zara Northover, Class of 2007, was chosen to represent Jamaica in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing on Tuesday. She won the shot put at the Jamaican Olympic Trials in Kingston, Jamaica, on June 28 and achieved the Olympic "B" standard in the shot put when she won the Island Games with a throw of 57’7.25 on June 8. She competed for the women's track team from 2002-07 and becomes the first Northeastern women’s athlete to compete in the Summer Olympics.

Walsh named 2008 Olympian
Dan Walsh, a 2002 Northeastern graduate, has been named to the men’s heavyweight eight team for the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing, where the crew will try to defend its gold medal. He competed at the U.S. Olympic Trials June 23-26 on Mercer Lake in New Jersey. Walsh was an alternate at the 2004 Olympics in Athens. Walsh rowed for the men's crew team from 1998-2001.

Glessner named to U.S. Under-23 National Team
Senior Katherine Glessner of the women's crew team has been named to the U.S. Under-23 National Team eight. She will represent the U.S. in the World Rowing Championship in Bredenburg, Germany July 17-20. This will be Glessner’s second trip to the World Championship.

14 Huskies named All-Academic
The swimming & diving team had 14 members honored with the CAA Commissioner’s Academic Award for having a grade point average of 3.2 or higher for the 2007-08 season. NU went undefeated for only the second time in school history this year accumulating wins over Boston College and Boston University while beating out CAA opponents Delaware James Madison and Old Dominion. The Huskies placed fifth at the CAA Championship.

Quigley featured in Sunday's Boston Herald
Sophomore pitcher Ryan Quigley of the baseball team was featured in the Boston Herald on Sunday, July 6, in a story that profiled local players in the Cape Cod League. The story focuses on Quigley's ties to the Cape Cod region and his recruitment to the league. Quigley is currently playing for the Harwich Mariners of the CCL and sports a 2-0 record with a 3.60 ERA. In two seasons for the Huskies, Quigley is 3-6 with seven saves.

Flint named women's hockey head coach
Dave Flint has been named the head coach of the women's hockey team, Northeastern Athletics Director Peter Roby announced Monday. Flint comes to the Huskies after four seasons as the head coach of the St. Anselm women's hockey team, where he had an impressive record of 88-15-2. With Flint at the helm, St. Anselm won two ECAC East regular season titles and three ECAC Open Tournament championships and led the nation in scoring defense in three of his four seasons. Flint is also the three-time reigning ECAC East Coach of the Year.

Football sponsors bus trip to Syracuse
Northeastern is sponsoring an overnight, all-inclusive trip to the football team's game at Syracuse on Sept. 20 at the Carrier Dome. The trip includes a bus ride, hotel and tickets to the game. There will also be a meet-and-greet and a tailgate prior to kickoff. Prices for the trip are as follows: bus is $25, game ticket is $21 and hotel is $150 (up to four people per room). The first 54 people to purchase the hotel room and bus ride will get the game ticket for free. For more information, call Sarah Gigantino in the football office at (617) 373-5549.
