Homecoming weekend
This weekend is Homecoming for Northeastern and Husky sports are in full swing. The weekend will be highlighted by Saturday's home events - the football team is in action at noon, the women's hockey team plays at 1 p.m., the men's soccer team plays at 6 p.m. and the men's hockey team plays at 7 p.m. The women's soccer team and volleyball team have home games on both Friday and Sunday. There will be a Husky FanFest in a tent adjacent to Matthews Arena from 5-7 p.m. before the men's hockey game against Boston College. To register for the event and see all the events around campus, go to northeastern.edu/homecoming.

Men's soccer visits Towson at 3 p.m.
The first-place men's soccer team travels to Towson to take on the Tigers this afternoon at 3 p.m. The Huskies are on a CAA-best seven game unbeaten streak where they have gone 4-0-3. Scott Partridge has led the defense to six shutouts in its last seven games with great play in goal. His six shutouts on the season lead the CAA. The Huskies come back home this weekend when they take on George Mason at Parsons Field at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast with live video on GoNU.TV.

Field hockey at Connecticut, 7 p.m.
The field hockey team takes on Connecticut at 7 p.m. in Storrs, CT. The Huskies are coming off a 4-2 conference loss to Towson, and look to stay above .500 with a win. Pam Aldridge and Ashley Bascetta lead NU in scoring, and will lead the Northeastern offense against UConn.

Moriarty, Vrountas earn CAA honors
Brittany Moriarty of the women's cross country team and Teddy Vrountas of the men's cross country team were named CAA Runners of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. It's the second time that each runner has received the award. Moriarty came in ninth place at the New England Championship while Vrountas finished 23rd. The Huskies travel to the CAA Championship in Fairfax, Va. on Nov. 1 at 11 a.m.

Schelling named Player of the Week
Florence Schelling of the women's hockey team was named Pure Hockey Defensive Player of the Week in Women's Hockey East on Monday. Schelling held Bemidji State scoreless through regulation and overtime on Friday as Northeastern skated to a 0-0 tie with the Beavers. Schelling has a 0.96 GAA and .975 save percentage in two starts this season.

Volleyball's Brown earns CAA honors
Britney Brown of the volleyball team was named CAA Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Brown had a double-double (10 kills and 18 assists) in a 3-0 sweep of Virginia Commonwealth and a triple-double (15 kills, 30 assists, and 14 digs) in a 3-1 win over William & Mary. Northeastern is 11-7 overall and leading the CAA at 5-0. The Huskies are back in action on Friday when they welcome Georgia State to Solomon Court at 7 p.m.

Soccer's Kennedy wins CAA honors
Mike Kennedy of the men's soccer team was named CAA Rookie of the Week by the league on Monday. Kennedy scored a goal in a 2-0 win against Hofstra and recorded two assists to win the honors. Kennedy now has three goals and two assists on the season and will help the Huskies as they take on Towson on the road at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

Football Homecoming vs. UNH Saturday
The football team aims for a third straight win over No. 11 New Hampshire Saturday when the Huskies meet the Wildcats on Homecoming Day at Parsons Field at 12 p.m. Northeastern has beaten the Wildcats in each of the last two meetings, both memorable games. The Huskies won a thrilling 36-35 overtime game on Homecoming Day in 2006 and then dominated UNH 31-13 last season in Durham, N.H. Saturday's game will broadcast live on 890 ESPN Boston and WRBB Radio. The game will also be televised on Comcast SportsNet.

Field hockey falls to Towson, 4-2
The field hockey team suffered a 4-2 loss to Towson at the Tigers' Johnny Unitas Stadium Sunday. Jillian Wilkes led the way for the Huskies with a goal and an assist, but it was not enough to lift the Huskies past the Tigers. The Huskies fall to 1-3 in the CAA witgh the loss. The Huskies travel to Connecticut Oct. 15 and Boston College Oct. 17 before returning home for CAA matchups against Drexel Oct. 24 and Hofstra Oct. 26.

Women's soccer falls at ODU, 3-0
The women's soccer team lost its second consecutive game on Sunday afternoon at Old Dominion 3-0. The Monarchs scored all three goals in the second half and got great defensive play. The Huskies were led by Liza Rebello who had two shots, including the only shot on goal for the Huskies. Northeastern falls to 7-5-1 overall on the season and 3-3-0 in CAA play. The Huskies are back in action on Friday when they host Georgia State at Parsons Field at 6 p.m.

Men's hockey tops Alaska Anchorage
The men's hockey team defeated Alaska Anchorage 4-2 on Saturday night in the final game of the the Kendall Hockey Classic in Anchorage, Alaska. Senior Ryan Ginand scored two goals for the Huskies and was named to the All-Tournament team along with goalie Brad Thiessen. Dennis McCauley and Wade MacLeod also scored for the Huskies. NU is back in action next weekend against Providence and Boston College.

Football falls to UMass
The football team battled No. 13/11 Massachusetts to the end, but fell short against the Minutemen 28-24 Saturday afternoon at Parsons Field. Alex Broomfield rushed for a career-high 169 yards while Anthony Orio threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to Rob Theoudele. Nate Thellen made his fifth interception in the last three games. Northeastern will host New Hampshire next Saturday on Homecoming Day.

Huskies run at New England Championship
The women's cross country team placed eighth and the men's cross country team took 26th at the New England Championship on Saturday at Franklin Park. The women's team was led by Brittany Moriarty, who took ninth in 18:04. Teddy Vrountas led the men's team with a 23rd-place finish in a time of 25:16. The Huskies are back in action at the CAA Championship on Nov. 1 in Centreville, Va.

Men's soccer shuts down UNCW
The men's soccer team continued its great defensive play to beat UNC Wilmington 2-0 Saturday night at Parsons Field. The Huskies got an early goal from Santiago Bedoya and a late goal from Lewis Ehrlich to seal the game in the 88th minute. The goal was the first of the season for Bedoya and the fifth for Ehrlich. Scott Partridge continued his great play in goal as he recorded his sixth shutout in the last seven games. Northeastern is back in action when it takes on Towson on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

Volleyball tops the CAA with win over the Tribe
The volleyball team gave William & Mary (14-4 overall, 4-1 CAA) its first CAA loss with a 3-1 win Saturday night at Kaplan Arena in Williamsburg, Va. The win marks the Huskies' ninth straight, which is tied for the fourth-most all-time in school history. Northeastern is now 11-7 overall and leading the CAA at 5-0. Sophomore Britney Brown recorded a triple-double, posting a career-high 15 kills, 30 assists and 13 digs. Brianna Seitz (13 kills and 12 digs) and Jessica Tkachuk (19 assists and 15 digs) also posted double-doubles. NU will return home Friday Oct. 17, when they take on the Georgia State Panthers at 7 p.m. on Solomon Court.

Women's hockey ties Bemidji State 2-2
The women's hockey team tied Bemidji State 2-2 Saturday in Bemidji, Minnesota. Kristi Kehoe and Alyssa Wohlfeiler scored for the Huskies, and goaltender Leah Sulyma made 40 saves. The Huskies played Bemidji State to a 0-0 tie Friday night. The Huskies' next game is the team's home opener against Providence on Oct. 18 at 1 p.m.

Murtagh nets 300th in win over Delaware
Head coach Cheryl Murtagh earned her 300th career win as the field hockey team defeated Delaware 2-0 at Delaware's Rullo Stadium Friday. Pam Aldridge had a goal and an assist in the win, and Kaela Barker also scored for the Huskies. Colleen Duffy had six saves and recorded her fourth shutout of the season. NU is back in action Sunday at Towson at 12 p.m.

Men's hockey opens with tie
The men's hockey team tied Alaska Fairbanks 2-2 to open the season on Friday night in Anchorage, Alaska. The Huskies got goals from senior Dennis McCauley and freshman Steve Quailer as well as 29 saves from goalie Brad Thiessen. The Nanooks won a shootout, which only counts for the tournament standings. NU is back in action against Alaska Anchorage on Saturday at 11 p.m. (Eastern).

Volleyball beats VCU, 3-0
The volleyball team earned its eighth straight victory Friday night after sweeping CAA opponent Virginia Commonwealth, 3-0. The Huskies improve to 10-7 overall and 4-0 in the CAA. Sophomore Britney Brown recorded 18 assists, 10 kills, six digs and a hit percentage of .421 to led NU. Captain Lauren DeTurk had another double-double match, posting match-highs in kills and digs with 12 and 15, respectively. The Huskies face William & Mary on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Williamsburg, Va.
