Men's hockey tops Alaska Anchorage
The men's hockey team defeated Alaska Anchorage 4-2 on Saturday night in the final game of the the Kendall Hockey Classic in Anchorage, Alaska. Senior Ryan Ginand scored two goals for the Huskies and was named to the All-Tournament team along with goalie Brad Thiessen. Dennis McCauley and Wade MacLeod also scored for the Huskies. NU is back in action next weekend against Providence and Boston College.

Football falls to UMass
The football team battled No. 13/11 Massachusetts to the end, but fell short against the Minutemen 28-24 Saturday afternoon at Parsons Field. Alex Broomfield rushed for a career-high 169 yards while Anthony Orio threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to Rob Theoudele. Nate Thellen made his fifth interception in the last three games. Northeastern will host New Hampshire next Saturday on Homecoming Day.

Field hockey falls to Towson, 4-2
The field hockey team suffered a 4-2 loss to Towson at the Tigers' Johnny Unitas Stadium Sunday. Jillian Wilkes led the way for the Huskies with a goal and an assist, but it was not enough to lift the Huskies past the Tigers. The Huskies fall to 1-3 in the CAA witgh the loss. The Huskies travel to Connecticut Oct. 15 and Boston College Oct. 17 before returning home for CAA matchups against Drexel Oct. 24 and Hofstra Oct. 26.

Women's soccer visits Old Dominion at 1 p.m.
The women's soccer team visits Old Dominion today at 1 p.m. The Huskies are coming off a Veronica Napoli looks to continue her great success as she leads the team with eight goals on the season. NU comes into the game 7-5-1 and 3-2-0 in CAA play. Northeastern is back in action on Friday when they host Georgia State at Parsons Field at 6 p.m.

Huskies run at New England Championship
The women's cross country team placed eighth and the men's cross country team took 26th at the New England Championship on Saturday at Franklin Park. The women's team was led by Brittany Moriarty, who took ninth in 18:04. Teddy Vrountas led the men's team with a 23rd-place finish in a time of 25:16. The Huskies are back in action at the CAA Championship on Nov. 1 in Centreville, Va.

Men's soccer shuts down UNCW
The men's soccer team continued its great defensive play to beat UNC Wilmington 2-0 Saturday night at Parsons Field. The Huskies got an early goal from Santiago Bedoya and a late goal from Lewis Ehrlich to seal the game in the 88th minute. The goal was the first of the season for Bedoya and the fifth for Ehrlich. Scott Partridge continued his great play in goal as he recorded his sixth shutout in the last seven games. Northeastern is back in action when it takes on Towson on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

Volleyball tops the CAA with win over the Tribe
The volleyball team gave William & Mary (14-4 overall, 4-1 CAA) its first CAA loss with a 3-1 win Saturday night at Kaplan Arena in Williamsburg, Va. The win marks the Huskies' ninth straight, which is tied for the fourth-most all-time in school history. Northeastern is now 11-7 overall and leading the CAA at 5-0. Sophomore Britney Brown recorded a triple-double, posting a career-high 15 kills, 30 assists and 13 digs. Brianna Seitz (13 kills and 12 digs) and Jessica Tkachuk (19 assists and 15 digs) also posted double-doubles. NU will return home Friday Oct. 17, when they take on the Georgia State Bulldogs at 7 p.m. on Solomon Court.

Women's hockey ties Bemidji State 2-2
The women's hockey team tied Bemidji State 2-2 Saturday in Bemidji, Minnesota. Kristi Kehoe and Alyssa Wohlfeiler scored for the Huskies, and goaltender Leah Sulyma made 40 saves. The Huskies played Bemidji State to a 0-0 tie Friday night. The Huskies' next game is the team's home opener against Providence on Oct. 18 at 1 p.m.

Murtagh nets 300th in win over Delaware
Head coach Cheryl Murtagh earned her 300th career win as the field hockey team defeated Delaware 2-0 at Delaware's Rullo Stadium Friday. Pam Aldridge had a goal and an assist in the win, and Kaela Barker also scored for the Huskies. Colleen Duffy had six saves and recorded her fourth shutout of the season. NU is back in action Sunday at Towson at 12 p.m.

Men's hockey opens with tie
The men's hockey team tied Alaska Fairbanks 2-2 to open the season on Friday night in Anchorage, Alaska. The Huskies got goals from senior Dennis McCauley and freshman Steve Quailer as well as 29 saves from goalie Brad Thiessen. The Nanooks won a shootout, which only counts for the tournament standings. NU is back in action against Alaska Anchorage on Saturday at 11 p.m. (Eastern).

Volleyball beats VCU, 3-0
The volleyball team earned its eighth straight victory Friday night after sweeping CAA opponent Virginia Commonwealth, 3-0. The Huskies improve to 10-7 overall and 4-0 in the CAA. Sophomore Britney Brown recorded 18 assists, 10 kills, six digs and a hit percentage of .421 to led NU. Captain Lauren DeTurk had another double-double match, posting match-highs in kills and digs with 12 and 15, respectively. The Huskies face William & Mary on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Williamsburg, Va.

Women's hockey ties Bemidji State
The women's hockey team tied Bemidji State 0-0 Friday night in Bemidji, Minnesota. The two teams were scoreless through regulation and overtime, but the Beavers were able to best the Huskies 2-1 in the shootout. However per NCAA rules, the game counts as a tie. Freshman goalie Florence Schelling held the Beavers scoreless through three periods and overtime for her first career shutout. The two teams play again Saturday at 3 p.m.

Women's soccer falls to W&M 3-2
The women’s soccer team let up two unanswered goals in the second half to fall to William & Mary 3-2 Friday night. The Huskies got goals from Veronica Napoli and Kelly Matthews within two minutes of each other to give NU the 2-1 lead at half time. The Huskies fall to 7-5-1 on the season and are now 3-2-0 in the CAA. Northeastern is back in action on Sunday as the Huskies play at Old Dominion at 1 p.m.
