Field hockey hosts Massachusetts Sunday
The field hockey team looks to rebound from a 2-1 loss to Providence when they take on Massachusetts Sunday at 2 p.m. at Sweeney Field. Carolyn Malloy has two goals in two games for Northeastern, and looks to continue producing as she and the Huskies try to get back to their winning ways. The game will have live web video on GoNU.TV.

Women's soccer tops Creighton for first win
The women's soccer team defeated Creighton 2-1 on Friday in the first game of the Regina Moench Tournament. Senior Brenna Matthews scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick after Veronica Napoli was tripped up on a breakaway after splitting two defenders. It was the Huskies' first win of the season and ended Creighton's four-game winning streak. The Huskies will take on Ohio on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

Cross country opens at CCSU
The men's cross country team placed third and the women's cross country team took fourth at the Blue Devil Invitational in New Britain, Conn., on Friday night. The men's team was led by runner-up finisher Teddy Vrountas, who ran a time of 26:44. Freshman Meegan Joly was the first across the line for the women's team in fifth place (18:51). NU is back in action at the Dartmouth Invitational on Sept. 13.

DeTurk gets 1000th kill in loss
Senior Lauren DeTurk of the volleyball team recorded her 1000th kill on Friday night against Tulane but it was not enough as the Huskies fell 3-1 at the Paso Robles Marriott Invitational. DeTurk had a double-double, posting a season high 16 kills with a hit percentage of .289 and 11 digs. Junior Leah Neubeck had a match-high 20 digs. Earlier in the day, NU lost to No. 2 Nebraska 3-0. The Huskies play their final match at the when they take on host No. 14 Cal Poly Saturday at 6 p.m. (EDT).

Field hockey falls to Providence
The field hockey team suffered a 2-1 loss to regional rival Providence at Sweeney Field Thursday. After going down 2-0 in the second half, the Huskies got a late goal from Carolyn Malloy off an assist from Ashley Bascetta but could not find find the equalizer. The team will next face Massachusetts on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Sweeney Field. The game will have live web video on GoNU.TV.

Roby announces staff additions
Athletics Director Peter Roby has announced the additions of seven members to the administrative and support staff with both existing and recently created positions. The new staff members represent a major step in the initiative to elevate Northeastern Athletics as announced by Roby in February. Joining the Athletics Department are George Gardner, Chris Marshall, Tony Ramirez, Sandra Menee, Mike Bishop, Kristi Stake and Dan Boothby.

Men's hoops ends trip with win over Bishop's
The men's basketball team wrapped up its seven-game exhibition tour of Canada with a 69-47 win over Bishop's University Wednesday night in Lennoxville, Quebec. Manny Adako led Northeastern with 19 points while Chaisson Allen added 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists. The Huskies end their trip with a 6-1 record and will now look forward to the start of the 2008-09 season. Huskies fans can review the trip by reading team manager Matthew Holt's trip update.

Walsh honored for bronze medal
Former Northeastern rower Dan Walsh, Class of 2002, has been honored several times since returning home from the Olympics in Beijing. Walsh rowed on the United States eight that won the bronze medal on Aug. 17. He threw out a ceremonial pitch before the Red Sox game on Monday, was honored at a breakfast with Northeastern staff on Tuesday and will be featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show on Monday, Sept. 8. After touring the country, Walsh will permanently display his bronze medal at NU's Henderson Boathouse.

Malloy named Co-Rookie of the Week
Freshman Carolyn Malloy of the field hockey team earned conference honors for her performance against Northwestern Saturday. Malloy started the game at forward and scored her first collegiate goal in the second half as the Huskies beat the Wildcats 3-0. The Huskies take on Providence Thursday at 3 p.m. at Sweeney field. Okland, Ehrlich named All-Tournament
The men's soccer team's Lewis Ehrlich and Lars Okland were named to the All-Tournament team for their stellar play this weekend in Louisville, Ky. Ehrlich scored one goal and had eight shots during the tournament, while Okland played solid defense both games. The Huskies next game is at Fairfield University on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m.

Three Huskies in the Olympics
Dan Walsh and Marshall Godschalk, both former rowers on the men's crew team, competed in Olympic medal races on Aug. 17 in Beijing. Walsh won a bronze medal after the United States heavyweight eight crew finished third in the A-Final behind winner Canada and runner-up Great Britain. Godschalk, rowing for the Netherlands, finished in sixth in the lightweight four final. Former women's track team member Zara Northover competed in the shot put for Jamaica on Aug. 16, placing 16th in her flight. She was NU's first female representative to the Summer Olympics.
