Flint named women's hockey head coach
Dave Flint has been named the head coach of the women's hockey team, Northeastern Athletics Director Peter Roby announced Monday. Flint comes to the Huskies after four seasons as the head coach of the St. Anselm women's hockey team, where he had an impressive record of 88-15-2. With Flint at the helm, St. Anselm won two ECAC East regular season titles and three ECAC Open Tournament championships and led the nation in scoring defense in three of his four seasons. Flint is also the three-time reigning ECAC East Coach of the Year.

Quailer selected in NHL Draft
Steve Quailer, an incoming freshman forward on the men's hockey team, was selected in the third round (86th overall) of the 2008 NHL Draft by the Montreal Canadiens. Quailer played for the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL in 2007-08 and tied for the team lead with 49 points (19-30-49) in 60 regular season games.

Lyon begins pro baseball career
After signing with the New York Yankees on June 9, following his draft selection, former Husky shortstop Mike Lyon made his debut with the Class-A Staten Island Yankees of the New York-Penn League on Tuesday. Through his first two games, Lyon is hitting .500 (4-8). There are currently nine former Huskies playing baseball professionally.

Tamsin, Lyon named ECAC All-Stars
Mike Tamsin and Mike Lyon of the baseball team were named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) All-Stars Wednesday evening. Tamsin was named to the first team as a utility player, while Lyon was selected to the second team at shortstop. It was the third post-season honor for both players, as both were named first team All-New England and first team All-CAA in May.

Football sponsors bus trip to Syracuse
Fans of the football team will have an opportunity to cheer on the Huskies as they meet Syracuse at the Carrier Dome on Sept. 20. The team is sponsoring an overnight, all-inclusive trip to Syracuse that will include a bus ride, hotel accommodations and tickets to the game. There will also be an opportunity to meet some of the coaching staff as well as a tailgate prior to kickoff. Prices for the trip are as follows: bus is $25, game ticket is $21 and hotel is $150 (up to four people per room). The first 54 people to purchase the hotel room and bus ride will get the game ticket for free. For more information, call Sarah Gigantino in the football office at (617) 373-5549.

Associate AD Grinold recovering
Northeastern Associate AD Jack Grinold is recovering well and in good spirits after suffering a heart attack on Wednesday, June 11. He has been released from the hospital and is now resting comfortably at home. Grinold has served as Sports Information Director since 1962 and attended 464 NU football games in a row, home and away. He was inducted to the NU Hall of Fame in 1985.

Northover gets Olympic "B" standard
Northeastern alum Zara Northover, who was on the women's track team from 2002-07, achieved the Olympic "B" standard in the shot put while winning the Island Games on Sunday at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, N.Y. Northover threw the shot put 17.56 meters, or 57'7.25, to surpass the Olympic "B" standard of 17.20 meters (56'5). Northover, Class of 2007, represents Jamaica and is currently the nation's top-ranked shot putter.

Women's hoops releases 2008-09 non-conference slate
The women's basketball team has released its 2008-09 non-conference schedule, and it includes five games at home, two games at Big East opponents and three games at other New England schools. The Huskies will open the season on Friday, Nov. 14 at St. John's, and then they will travel to West Virginia on Tuesday, Nov. 21 to play a Mountaineers team that is coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance. The Huskies open their home slate on Friday, Nov. 21 against Marist.

Women's hockey announces 2008-09 schedule
The women's hockey team has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2008-09 season. In addition to 21 conference games, the 34-game schedule features 16 home games and 18 road games. The Huskies open up the season Oct. 3 at RPI and then take on first-time opponents Union (Oct. 4) and Bemidji State (Oct. 10-11). The team's first home game will be against Hockey East runner-up Providence on Oct. 18. In addition the team will host the annual Women's Beanpot Tournament at Matthews Arena in February.

Men's crew fourth at IRA Championship
The men's crew team placed fourth in the Grand Final on Sat., June 7, at the 2008 IRA Championship Regatta on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J. Northeastern, seeded seventh, posted a time of 5:42.399, which was behind Wisconsin, Washington and California, but ahead of Stanford and Columbia. The second varsity crew finished second in the Petite Final, while the freshman crew came in third in the Petite Final.
