Women's hoops takes on Marist Friday night
The women’s basketball team looks for its first win of the season Friday night when it takes on Marist at Solomon Court in its home opener at 7 p.m. This will be the third meeting all-time between the two teams with NU taking a 2-0 advantage. The Huskies are coming off a 79-42 loss at West Virginia Tuesday night. Sophomore Jasmine Crew lead the way with 13 points and 6 boards. Northeastern is 15-15 in home openers since 1978. Men's hoops hosts Holy Cross Saturday at 7 p.m.
The men's basketball team welcomes Holy Cross to Matthews Arena this Saturday at 7 p.m. for Northeastern's home opener. Led by junior captain Matt Janning, the Huskies are 2-1 and are coming off a 70-66 victory over the Big East's Providence Friars. Northeastern plays three of its next four games at home, including a Nov. 25 bout with Boston University and a Dec. 3 tilt against Rhode Island. Saturday's game will broadcast live on WRBB Radio and video will be available live on GoNU.TV.

Three field hockey players named All-Region
Pam Aldridge, Ashley Bascetta and Jillian Wilkes of the field hockey team were named All-Northeast Region on Wednesday by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. Aldridge was named to the first team, while Bascetta and Wilkes were named to the second team. Bascetta was named first team All-Northeast Region in 2007. This is the first All-Region honor for Aldridge and Wilkes.

Schelling featured in Sports Illustrated
Florence Schelling of the women's hockey team is featured in the "Faces in the Crowd" section of the Nov. 24 issue of Sports Illustrated. Her strong play in the early season has helped the Huskies jump out to a 6-3-2 start, their best showing through 11 games since 2003-04.

Women's swimming & diving to compete in Invitational
The women's swimming & diving team will compete in the Terrier Invitational this weekend at Boston University. The Huskies are coming off a pod meet where they claimed a victory over Drexel, 270-77. Northeastern got a great showing from Kathrine Fugge who placed third in the 200 (1:54.79) and 100-yd (53.31) freestyles.The team is 3-4 on the season and will next compete in a meet at Massachusetts on Dec. 6 at 12 p.m.

Football's Orio honored in N.J.
Senior quarterback Anthony Orio of the football team has been named the Brooks-Irvine Memorial Club South Jersey FCS Player of the Year, the organization announced this week. This season, Orio, a native of Voorhees, N.J., became just the fifth NU quarterback to reach 2,000 passing yards in a single season. For his career, he ranks third at Northeastern in passing yards, first in completion percentage and sixth in passing touchdowns. Orio will play in his final game this Saturday when the Huskies take on Rhode Island on Senior Day at Parsons Field at 1 p.m.

Volleyball tourney this weekend
The volleyball team hosts the CAA Tournament this weekend at Solomon Court. The tournament starts with the quarterfinals on Saturday at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. As the top seed, the Huskies get a bye in the first round and will play in the semifinals on Sunday at 4 p.m. The final is Monday at 7 p.m. Northeastern went 18-10 overall and 12-2 in CAA action in the regular season.

Football vs. URI on Senior Day
The football team looks to wrap up the 2008 season on a strong note Saturday when the Huskies take on the Rhode Island Rams at Parsons Field at 1 p.m. This is the 56th all-time meeting between Northeastern and Rhode Island, and the Huskies have won five of the last six meetings and eight of the last 10. In a pregame ceremony, the Huskies will honor 14 seniors who are playing their final game in a Northeastern uniform. Saturday's game will broadcast live on 890 ESPN Boston and WRBB Radio. Matthews named to NEWISA senior bowl
Brenna Matthews of the women's soccer team has been selected to participate in the NEWISA senior bowl which will take place on Sunday, Dec. 7 at 11 a.m. Matthews scored two goals and had two assists for the Huskies this season.

Women's hoops falls to West Virginia
The women's basketball team fell to West Virginia, 79-42 Tuesday night in Morgantown, W. Va. Jasmine Crew led the Huskies with 13 points and six rebounds. Kendra Walton added four points and a team-high 11 rebounds. The Huskies return home on Friday when they host Marist in there home opener at 7 p.m. at Solomon Court.

Volleyball earns top spot in the CAA with win
The volleyball team defeated Virginia Commonwealth Sunday afternoon at Solomon Court. The 3-1 win solidifies a first place finish in the CAA earning the team’s rights to host the CAA Tournament and a first round bye. Britney Brown led the Huskies, recording a match-high 15 kills along with 18 assists. Senior Brianna Seitz chipped in with nine kills and 13 digs. The CAA Quarterfinals begins on Saturday night at 4 p.m. at Solomon Court. NU will play the winner of the match between fourth-seed William & Mary and fifth-seed Hofstra on Sunday.

Women's soccer falls to Boston College
The women's soccer team lost to Boston College 4-0 Sunday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at the Newton Soccer Field. This is the first Husky loss since Oct. 24, snapping a six-game unbeaten streak. Goalkeeper Stephanie Gordon had six saves in the outing bringing her season save total to 107. The team had a great season, winning its first-ever CAA Championship on Nov. 9 against Hofstra, winning its first-ever NCAA Tournament game against Harvard and posting a nine-win improvement from last season.

Men's soccer falls in CAA final
The men's soccer team dropped its final match against George Mason 1-0 in the CAA championship game at Wilmington, N.C. on Sunday afternoon. The Huskies end the season with a record of 7-5-9, 5-2-4 CAA. Keeper Scott Partridge made six saves on the day. The Huskies' Lars Okland, Alexander Volk and Brendan Ennis were named to the All-Tournament team.

Men's hockey shut out by BU
The seventh-ranked men's hockey team took a 3-0 loss to No. 1 Boston University on Sunday at Agganis Arena. The Huskies got 24 saves from netminder Brad Thiessen but couldn't generate any offense against BU goalie Kieran Millan. BU put up two goals in the second, including the game-winner by Nick Bonino, and another in the third period. The Huskies are now 7-2-2 overall and 5-2-1 in Hockey East. Northeastern is back in action next weekend when it hosts New Hampshire on Friday night and travels to UMass Lowell on Saturday.

Men's hoops knocks off Providence
Matt Janning's three-pointer with 1:48 left in the game broke a 63-63 tie and sent the men's basketball team to a 70-66 victory over Providence Saturday night at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, R.I. Janning scored 24 points, 16 in the second half. Eugene Spates scored 17 points, nailing five three-pointers. Baptiste Bataille came off the bench to hit a pair of critical threes and free throws. The Huskies improve to 2-1 and will play Holy Cross in their home opener at Matthews Arena next Saturday at 7 p.m.

Football drops game at Hofstra
The football team lost to Hofstra 42-14 Saturday at a rainy and Windy Shuart Stadium in Hempstead, N.Y. Alex Broomfield and John Sperrazza scored touchdowns for the Huskies, and Phil Higgins made 16 tackles, surpassing the 100-tackle mark for the season. The Huskies wrap up the season next Saturday against Rhode Island on Senior Day at Parsons Field at 1 p.m.

Women's hockey drops second game to WSU
The women's hockey team suffered a 3-2 loss to Wayne State in the second game of a two-game set Saturday at the Warriors' City Sports Arena. Kristi Kehoe scored twice for the Huskies, but Northeastern still dropped the contest to fall to 6-3-2. The Huskies' next game is Nov. 26 at New Hampshire at 5 p.m.

Cross country competes in regional meet
The women's cross country team and men's cross country team competed in the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship on Saturday at Van Courtlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y. The women's team placed 15th and was led by Brittany Moriarty, who placed 41st in 22:35.0 for the 6K course. The men's team didn't score, but was led by Teddy Vrountas, who took 61st in 33:31.2 for 10K.

Women's soccer beats Harvard in PKs
In the first round of the NCAA Tournament, the women's soccer team defeated Harvard 4-2 in penalty kicks after tying 2-2 in regulation at Boston College's Newton Soccer Field on Friday. Kelly Matthews scored both goals in regulation and got the game-winner in penalty kicks. The CAA champion Huskies have won six straight games. Stephanie Gordon had three saves in the winning effort but none bigger than the two in the shootout. The team will take on Boston College in the second round at the Newton Soccer Field on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Men's soccer advances to CAA Final
The men's soccer team beat UNC Wilmington 5-3 in penalty kicks to advance to the CAA Finals Friday night. Captain Brendan Ennis made the winning penalty kick as the Huskies played to their second shootout win in the tournament. Keeper Scott Partridge recorded his 10th shutout of the season, which leads the CAA.

The seventh-ranked men's hockey team upended No. 15 Vermont 5-3 on Friday at Gutterson Fieldhouse in Burlington, Vt. Senior Ryan Ginand scored twice and Tyler McNeely, Steve Silva and Alex Tuckerman also scored.

Volleyball sweeps William & Mary
The volleyball team delivered a convincing 3-0 sweep of William & Mary Friday night at Solomon Court. Lauren DeTurk led the way with a double-double, posting 15 digs and 10 kills. Britney Brown added 11 digs and 7 kills. With the win, the Huskies maintain a one-game lead over VCU for first place in the CAA.

Women's hoops drops opener at St. John's
The women's basketball team dropped its season opener to St. John's, 70-52 at Carnesecca Arena in Queens, N.Y. Kendra Walton had 13 points and eight rebounds while sophomore Jasmine Crew chipped in with a team-high 14 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Senior Ashlee Feldman became the 14th Husky to record 1,000 career points. Northeastern is back in action Tuesday night when they travel to West Virginia to take on the Mountaineers.
