Northeastern 6, C.W. Post 4
March 30, 2002
Friedman Diamond (Brookline, Mass.)

Northeastern came from behind to win 6-4 and complete a doubleheader sweep of C.W. Post at Friedman Diamond on Saturday. The Huskies won game one 4-3. NU also defeated the Pioneers on Friday 14-2. NU has now won eight straight games.

Like game one, the Huskies fell behind 3-0 in the first inning, but rallied for the win. Down 4-3 in the fifth, NU got three runs to take the lead. Junior catcher Luke Carlin got the big hit, singling through the hole on the left side to drive home Mike Steinberg with the tying run and Brad Czarnowski with the go-ahead run. Steinberg started the inning by reaching on an error. Czarnowski then walked and Omar Pena advanced the runners with a perfect sacrifice bunt, setting the stage for Carlin's big hit. NU added an insurance run when Carlin was hung up between second and third, but came home on a wild throw by C.W. Post catcher Pete Esposito.

NU's rally made a winner of freshman Matt Piryk, who pitched five innings and allowed six hits and four earned runs. Ken Henry worked the final two innings for his first save.

Chris Ianotti led off the game with a walk and Joe Grillo laced a double off Piryk to put C.W. Post up 1-0. Greg Annino then blasted a homer to left for a 3-0 edge. The Huskies came right back in the bottom of the first. Carlin walked and then Ben Beck hit a towering blast off C.W. Post starter Ryan Eskridge that landed in the top of the trees well beyond the left field fence for his second homer of the season.

Ianotti had an RBI single in the second for a 4-2 lead, but Carlin hit his second homer of the year to cut the deficit in half, 4-3, after three innings.
