Maine 2, Northeastern 1 (Game 2)
NU freshman starter Devin Monds pitched a great game for the Huskies, surrendering seven hits with six strikeouts and no walks. The two runs he allowed were both unearned.
The Huskies trailed 2-0 heading into the last of the seventh, but Nick Graves cut the deficit in half with his fourth homer of the season. That chased Maine freshman starter Paul Bruder, who was relieved by Adam Labelle. Jeff Heriot greeted Labelle with a perfect bunt single down the third-base line. Brad Czarnowski then sacrificed Heriot to second with another bunt. Omar Pena grounded back to Labelle to advance Heriot to third, setting up a dramatic at-bat for Luke Carlin. He worked the count full, but struck out swinging to end the game. NU was 0-11 in the doubleheader with runners in scoring position.
NU left 10 runners on base in a 2-1 loss to UMass on Thursday, stranded 11 more in a 6-4 loss to Maine in this weekend's series opener on Saturday, and the Husky frustration continued early in game two Sunday.
Ben Beck walked, Colin Gaynor singled and Erik Hagstrom walked to load the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the second. But, Bruder worked out of the jam, getting Graves to pop out to second base and Heriot to bounce into a double play.
Maine took a 2-0 edge in the top of the third with a pair of unearned runs against Monds. Mike Livulpi led off with a blooper that fell in between NU shortstop Pena and leftfielder Ben Beck. The pair nearly collided as the ball rolled free and Livulpi cruised into second with a double. Pena then made a nice play on a grounder by Brett Ouellette but his throw glanced off the glove of first baseman Colin Gaynor, allowing Livulpi to score. Ouellette moved to second on a ground out and came home to score on a sacrifice fly by Joe Drapeau.
The Huskies threatened again in their half of the third, putting two men on with one away, but Miguel Paquette hit into a double play to end the inning. NU bounced into five double plays in Sunday's doubleheader.

Friedman Diamond (Brookline, MA)Maine completed a doubleheader and weekend sweep of Northeastern with a 2-1 win over the Huskies in game two of a twinbill at Friedman Diamond. Maine blanked the Huskies in game one on Sunday, 7-0. The Black Bears also swept a doubleheader against the Huskies on Saturday, winning 6-4 and 3-2.
