Another NU newcomer, sophomore Justin Hedrick, worked the ninth inning to close out the Crimson. The Huskies will meet either Boston College or UMass in the championship game at Fenway on Tuesday, April 23 at 2 p.m.
Paquette got the Huskies on the board in the bottom the first, blasting a two-run homer just inside the Pesky pole to score Luke Carlin, who had drawn a two-out walk. NU added to the edge with two more runs in the fifth. Erik Hagstrom walked, Nick Graves singled and Jeff Heriot was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Brad Czarnowksi hit a sacrifice fly to score Hagstrom and then Omar Pena singled to center to score Graves, making it 4-0.
The Huskies made it 7-0 with three runs in the sixth. Paquette walked and advanced to second on a Ben Beck single. Freshman Colin Gaynor then bunted back to pitcher Mike Dryden who threw wildly to first, allowing Paquette to score. Beck also came around on the play when first baseman Trey Hendricks continued the Harvard miscues with another error. Hagstrom brought home Gaynor, who had advanced all the way to third, with a sac fly.
Piryk continued to roll along, facing little trouble until the seventh when Nick Carter singled to become just the second UMass batter to reach base leading off an inning. Javier Lopez doubled to send Carter to third and he came home on Mickey Kropf's groundout. Bryan Hale singled with two outs to drive home Lopez and make it 7-2.
Paquette blasted his second homer of the day and fourth of the season in the seventh off A.J. Solomine, a solo shot that cleared the bullpen in right to complete the NU scoring. The Crimson mounted a rally in the ninth with a pair of runs charged to Piryk, but Hedrick came on and retired the side.

Fenway Park (Boston, MA)Miguel Paquette hit a pair of homers and fellow freshman Matt Piryk worked eight strong innings to lead Northeastern to an 8-4 win over Harvard in the first round of the Beanpot at Fenway Park.
