| 2002 Schedule/Results Northeastern 6, Stony Brook 5
Trailing 5-2 entering the bottom of the seventh, Mike Steinberg singled to lead off the inning. Following a Brad Czarnowski popup to third, Omar Pena moved Steinberg up 90 feet with a single to left. Luke Carlin followed Pena's hit with a double, scoring Steinberg and advancing Pena to third, making the score 5-3. After a Colin Gaynor sacrifice fly to score Pena, Ben Beck was intentionally walked, putting runners at first and second. Erik Hagstrom then singled to right, scoring the tying run in Carlin. That was followed by Jeff Heriot's single to right that sent Beck home as the winning run.
Sophomore Jordan Thomson pitched a complete game for his fifth win of the season. He struck out five while allowing five runs, but only two were earned. Jonathan Lewis (6-3) picked up the loss for Stony Brook, as he also threw a complete game, giving up six runs, all earned, on 10 hits with 4 K's.
Stony Brook got on the scoreboard first in the top of the second. Catcher Ed Kull plated Andrew Larsen with a sacrifice fly to center. The lead was short-lived as Beck opened the bottom half of the third with a monstrous home run to center, his fifth of the season.
A pair of NU errors with two outs in the third then led to three Stony Brook runs. With two out and nobody on, an error by Beck at first allowed Dwayne Whitaker to reach base safely. He then scored on a double by the following batter, Matt Devins. Larsen then reached on an error by second baseman Hagstrom, advancing Devins to third. Both Devins and Larsen would come around to score.
The Seawolves added a fifth run in the fourth inning when Devins picked up his second RBI of the day. He singled to score Stu Juarez, who earlier reached base after being hit by a Thomson pitch to open the inning. The Huskies got that run back in the bottom half of the inning when Heriot singled to center, scoring Beck.
On the day, Heriot was 3-4 with a pair of RBI, while both Pena and Carlin were 2-4, each with one RBI. Lee Lipschutz paced the Stony Brook attack, with three hits and an RBI, while Devins had a pair of hits and two RBI. 2002 Northeastern Baseball
