Stony Brook 2, Northeastern 0 (Game 1)
May 5, 2002
Friedman Diamond (Brookline, MA)

Tony Stutz pitched a complete-game two-hitter to lead Stony Brook to a 2-0 win over Northeastern in the first game of an America East doubleheader at Friedman Diamond.

Stutz (5-2) allowed just two singles, did not walk a man, and struck out four. Ken Henry (5-3) pitched well for NU, but the Seawolves got a first-inning homer from Dwayne Whitaker and added a single run in the fifth. Henry went the distance and allowed nine hits with a season-high eight strikeouts.

Whitaker's one-out shot in the first inning was his eighth of the season, tying for the America East lead with Maine's Joe Drapeau. Whitaker tripled with one out in the fifth and scored the Seawolves' second run when Matt Devins followed with an RBI single.

The Huskies never threatened as Stutz was in total control. He allowed only a two-out single to Luke Carlin in the first, a two-out single to Miguel Paquette in the fourth, and a two-out walk to Ben Beck in the seventh. He retired 10 of last 11 batters he faced.
