After Bruder sent the Huskies down in order in the top of the first, Maine jumped on NU starter Ken Henry right away in its half of the first. Aaron Young led off with a walk and Brett Ouellette then crushed a Henry pitch for a two-run homer to left. After a single by Maine catcher Alain Picard, teammate Joe Drapeau hit a blast even farther than Ouellette's for another two-run homer and a quick 4-0 lead.
Maine made it a 7-0 advantage with three runs in the bottom of the third. Picard led off with a double to left-center, moved to third on a groundout by Drapeau, and came home to score on Aaron Izaryk's infield single. Mike Ross then doubled down the left field line to score Izaryk for a 6-0 edge. After a strikeout, Henry had a chance to get out of the inning when Mike Ferriggi hit a routine grounder to Omar Pena at short, but his throw pulled first baseman Colin Gaynor off the bag and Ross raced home with the seventh run.
Pena got one run back with his first homer of the season, a solo shot with one out in the fourth. Maine answered with another run off Henry in the last of the fourth as Ouellette led off with a single, moved up on Picard's ground out and scored on an Izaryk single. Henry then threw consecutive wild pitches before leaving the game with a blister. Matt Pileski came on and pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings.
Bruder was in control all afternoon and cruised after allowing a Nick Graves RBI single in the fifth, which completed the game's scoring. Bruder allowed only two more NU baserunners.
Drapeau finished the game 3-5 and Izaryk was 3-4.
It was Bruder's second win of the season against the Huskies and Henry's second loss. The pair both pitched in the NU-Maine series on April 14 at Friedman Diamond. Henry surrendered five earned runs in six innings as the Huskies lost 7-0 in game one of a doubleheader. Bruder defeated the Huskies in game two, taking a shutout into the seventh inning before Graves homered for NU's only run in a 2-1 loss.
