Maine 15, Northeastern 1 (game 2)
Mike Livulpi hit a leadoff double to right center, while senior Brett Ouellette followed with his sixth home run of the season, a deep shot to left field off NU starter Brendan Ryan (0-3). Drapeau hit a double to right center and scored when Alain Picard hit his third home run of the season for a quick 4-0 lead with only one out. With two away in the inning, Jesse Carlton doubled down the left field line, and Simon Williams walked. Aaron Young then doubled into left field to score Carlton and send Williams to third. Livulpi stepped to the plate for the second time in the inning and doubled to right center again, scoring Young and Williams for a 7-0 lead.
The Black Bears' hot hitting continued the next inning, starting with a sacrifice fly by Carlton to score Drapeau, who had opened the inning with a walk. Steve Gambale hit an RBI single up the middle to score Picard as the Black Bears made it a 9-0 advantage after just two innings.
In the fifth inning, Maine scored four more runs, including a three-run home run by Young, who hit his second long ball of the season. Livulpi had tripled down the right field line and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ouellette for a 13-0 lead. Meanwhile, Greg Creek, who provided the winning hit in the first game, retired 14 of the first 15 Northeastern batters he faced.
NU's only run in the game was a one-out solo home run over the left field wall by Jeff Heriot in the fifth inning.
The Huskies fall to 7-15 with the loss and are now 2-6 in America East play. Ryan took the loss on the mound for NU after allowing nine earned runs in two innings of work. The Huskies will take part in the Beanpot on Tuesday, meeting Boston College at 5 p.m. at Fenway Park.
