Eastern Kentucky 5, Northeastern 1
Eastern Kentucky got on the board first as Josh Anderson singled to lead off the bottom of the first, stole second and later scored on a sacrifice fly to right field by Neil Sellers. NU tied it up in the top of the second when Matt Morizio doubled to score Tim Bush who had reached on a fielder’s choice earlier in the inning.
EKU reclaimed the lead off NU starter Jim Madison in the bottom of the fifth. Andy Polzin led off with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch. Chris Clark then singled through the left side of
the infield to put runners on the corners. Madison then plunked Stephen Carter with a pitch to load the
bases for Anderson, who singled through the right side to drive in Clark and Polzin.
Madison worked out of the jam and NU faced a slim 3-1 deficit through five innings of play.
EKU added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth as Clark came through with
an RBI double to score Jonathan Woodard who had reached on an error by NU
third baseman Brian Nutting.
The Colonels added another run in the bottom of the eighth off NU reliever Matt Piryk as Woodard
scored on a wild pitch.
EKU starter Nick Adams (1-1) tossed seven innings, allowing one earned run on three
hits while striking out three. Brandon Scott picked up his first save of the season
after tossing two innings of shutout baseball, allowing one hit and striking out four
of the nine batters he faced.
Brad Czarnowksi reached four times for the Huskies, singling, walking twice and getting hit by a pitch.
