Justin Hedrick started for NU and had nine strikeouts in seven innings, but allowed three runs on five hits and four walks and took the loss. Jim Madison started the eighth and pitched two scoreless innings to finish the game, striking out three. Maine's Greg Norton got the win, allowing two runs over six innings. Scott Robinson pitched the final three innings to earn the save.
Maine got two runs on the board early when center fielder Simon Williams led off the game with a double. Matt McGraw followed with an RBI triple, then he went home on a ground-out by Ryan Quintal. Maine put another run on the board in the third when Williams knocked homer over the left field wall.
The Huskies struck for two runs in the fifth, moving within a run of the Black Bears. Tim Bush singled to right-center to lead off the inning and Miguel Paquette followed with a hard liner to center that moved Bush to third. Brian Nutting lined a hit over the third baseman to score Bush. Brad Czarnowski followed with an RBI-single to make the score 3-2 in favor of Maine.
The Huskies threatened in the fourth inning when Czarnowski and Chris Emanuele reached on a hit-by-pitch and single, respectively. Paul
Koslowski moved them up to second and third with a ground-out but Jeff Heriot ended the inning with a high-fly out to right field.
Paul Koslowski led off the bottom of the sixth, beating out an infield single. Jeff Heriot followed with a fly-out, then Bush took a Norton
offering off the back for a free pass that moved Koslowski up to second. But the Huskies couldn't capitalize, stranding men on first and
third. With two outs in the seventh inning, Arman Sidhu hit a single and Emanuele followed with a blooper to left, putting men on first and second for Koslowski, but Koslowski popped one up to end the inning.
Hedrick didn't allow any runs over his final four innings of work. He got into trouble in the seventh, walking two Maine batters but got out
of the inning unscathed. Norton got the first nine batters in order, until hitting Brad Czarnowski to lead off the fourth inning.
In the eighth inning, Madison walked Maine's Ryan Quintal, but catcher Matt Morizio picked him off at first
base to end the inning.

Friedman Diamond (Brookline, MA)Northeastern battled back from a 3-0 deficit to make it 3-2 but Maine held off the Huskies to win the first game of Friday's doubleheader and win its first conference game. Northeastern came back later to win the second game 7-1.
