The loss dropped NU to 12-10 overall and 2-2 in conference play while Vermont improved to 9-14 and 3-1 before the second game of the day.
NU jumped out to a 3-0 lead when first baseman Paul Koslowski hit a three-run homer in the first inning. Arman Sidhu singled in Brad Czarnowski in the second and Chris Emanuele added a homer in the third inning to give the Huskies a 5-1 lead after three innings.
The Huskies added three more runs with two outs in the sixth inning. Emanuele hit a two-run double and Kosloski hit an RBI-single as NU's starter Justin Hedrick cruised along, holding Vermont to two runs over the first six innings.
But the Catamounts clawed their way back into the game with five runs in the bottom of the seventh. Vermont scored three runs before Hedrick was relieved by Adam Ottavino. Vermont scored two more with Ottavino on the mound (one was charged to Hedrick).
The Huskies got to double-digits, taking a 10-6 lead when Miguel Paquette hit a double that scored Tim Bush in the eighth inning, and appeared to have the game in hand.
In the bottom of the ninth, Vermont made its final stand, scoring four runs off Ottavino with a barage of singles. Vermont prevailed 11-10 with the rally.
Koslowski had a huge game with four RBI for the Huskies while Emanuele went 3-4 with three runs and three RBI. Both hit homers.

Centennial Field (Burlington, VT)Northeastern led 8-2 in the seventh inning and 10-7 heading into the bottom of the ninth, but Vermont wouldn't quit and came back to beat the Huskies 11-10 in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday at Centennial Field in Burlington, Vt.
