Jeff Heriot went 4-5 at the plate with three runs and an RBI, lifting his batting average to .600 through the first eight games. NU went 6-2 for the week.
The Huskies opened up the top of the ninth with four-straight singles and a walk before IPFW finally recorded an out. Chris Emanuele, Paul Koslowski, Tim Bush, Jeff Heriot and Eric Murray crossed the plate before the inning was over.
Paquette's homer in the fourth was his first hit of the season. He followed that up with a bomb in the sixth inning but IPFW right fielder 23 made the catch up against the wall.
Koslowski singled in Emanuele in the third inning for NU's first run. Murray batted in Heriot in the sixth to give NU a 3-0 lead.
Ottavino faced the minimum number of batters through five innings. He let up a walk and two hits over that span but his battery mate, catcher Dan Milano, helped out by gunning down two runners attempting to steal. It was Milano's first collegiate start behind the plate and he also hit 2-3.
IPFW got on the board in the sixth. The first two runners reached base on a double and walk and moved up on a wild pitch. Pinch hitter Brent Alwine laid down a bunt Milano was on the ball and threw him out at first. Ryan Keena then came up and hit a grounder to shortstop Arman Sidhu, who threw to first for the out as the run scored. Ottavino then struck out Brandon Armstrong to end the inning. Ottavino followed with a scoreless seventh.
Devin Monds relieved Ottavino in the eighth and had a 1-2-3 inning. He blew through the first two batters on strikeouts and retired the third on a pop-foul to Bush. Monds had a rocky ninth after sitting while NU scored all the runs in the top of the inning. He allowed three runs to make the final 9-4.
