| 2006 Schedule/Results Northeastern 3, UNC Wilmington 2 (10 Innings)
Morizio was batting against Andrew Morgan (0-1) with two outs and junior Dan Milano, who had walked and stolen second, on base when he got the game-winning hit. Morizio had a huge weekend against the Seahawks (21-9, 4-5 CAA), going 5-12 with a home run and seven RBI and earning a save in yesterday's 4-3 win. The Huskies were down early, 2-0, in the second inning after UNCW catcher Mark Carver hit a double to the gap in left-center that scored Jonathan Batts and Lee McLean. NU got one back in the bottom of the second when Milano hit a line drive that clanged off the foul pole in left field for his fifth home run of the season. In the third, the Huskies (12-9, 7-2 CAA) tied the game up when senior Jeff Maher, batting with the bases loaded, crushed a ball right at UNCW third baseman Matt Poulk, and the ball skipped off Poulk's glove, allowing Maher to reach base and senior Arman Sidhu to score. From there on, it was a pitcher's duel between UNCW's Zach Booker and NU's Kris Dabrowiecki. Dabrowiecki went 6-1/3 innings, allowing eight hits and two runs; he walked two and struck out eight. Booker pitched six innings, allowing six hits and two runs and walking three while fanning five. In the seventh inning, the Seahawks threatened, loading the bases on Dabrowiecki with just one out. The Huskies went to the bullpen and freshman Trevor Smith came in and got Matt Poulk to ground into a fielder's choice and John Raynor to ground out to end the inning. Smith (4-1) finished the game, throwing 3-2/3 innings and allowing no hits and one walk while striking out two batters. The Huskies have now won six straight CAA games and are percentage points ahead of James Madison for second-place in the conference. They made an impression on the league by shutting down the conference's top run-scoring team. In the series, Husky pitchers had a 2.89 ERA, allowing just nine runs while registering 31 strikeouts. Before the series began, the Seahawks were hitting .364 as a team and were averaging 11.1 runs per game. The Huskies will make the short trip to Chestnut Hill on Tuesday to take on Boston College. Game time is at 3 p.m. Next weekend, the Huskies will put their six-game CAA winning streak on the line when they host third-place James Madison.
