McDonald named CAA Pitcher of the Week
March 11, 2008
Boston, MA

Sophomore Sheldon McDonald of the Northeastern University baseball team was named the Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday. The Spruce Grove, Alberta native earned two wins in two appearances on the week, combining to throw nine shutout innings. He allowed just five hits, struck out 11 batters and walked none.

In Northeastern’s 5-0 win against Western Michigan last Wednesday, McDonald tossed eight shutout innings, giving up just five hits (none for extra bases) in the outing, while striking out nine and walking none. The performance was even more impressive considering that Western Michigan entered the game having scored at least 15 runs in three of its previous five games.

In the Huskies comeback win against Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday, McDonald pitched a perfect ninth inning in relief for the Huskies, recording two strikeouts. He was able to then pick up his second win of the week when the Huskies were able to walk off with a 10-9 win in the bottom of the inning.

McDonald currently leads the CAA with a 3-0 record and a 1.50 earned run average. In a combined 12 innings of work this season, he has allowed just nine hits and two runs, while striking out 14 batters and holding opponents to a .200 batting average.
