Tamsin and Quigley honored by CAA May 22, 2007 Sophomore Mike Tamsin and freshman Ryan Quigley of the Northeastern University baseball team were honored by the Colonial Athletic Association at the 2007 CAA Awards Banquet on Tuesday night. Tamsin was named to the All-CAA second team for the second consecutive season and Quigley was selected to the CAA All-Rookie team.
After earning All-CAA second team and All-Rookie honors in 2006, Tamsin improved in nearly every offensive category as the team’s regular left fielder this season. The Branford, Conn. native led the Huskies with a .366 batting avergage, 63 hits, and a .446 on-base percentage. He also finished tied for the team lead with 39 runs scored, second on the team with 40 RBI and third on the team with 99 total bases. Tamsin attended Branford High School and Choate Rosemary Hall, where he was a three-sport star (baseball, basketball, football).
Quiglely’s All-Rookie selection comes after a fantastic freshman season in which the big lefty served primarily as the Husky closer, collecting six saves and sporting a team-best 3.45 ERA. He tied the Northeastern record with 23 appearances and allowed just three extra-base hits on the season. The Taunton, Mass. native struck out 32 batters in 31-1/3 innings of work and held opponents to a .218 batting average, the second lowest on the team. He graduated from Taunton High School in 2006.
Both players were instrumental in guiding the Huskies to their sixth consecutive winning season, finishing with a 24-22 record overall. It was the 18th winning season in head coach Neil McPhee’s 22 years at Northeastern. The Huskies also won the 2007 Beanpot Tournament, the school’s first since 2002, as they shut out Boston College, 2-0, at Fenway Park on April 25.
