Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center Summary and History
The Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center is on the campus of Roxbury Community College and the site of NU's home indoor track meets. The Center is named after the local humanitarian and Northeastern hero, Reggie Lewis, who starred for the Huskies and then professionally for the Boston Celtics. Lewis was revered not only for his athletic prowess, but also for his dedication and advocacy for the educational, physical, emotional and social well being of the youth within the Boston community. It is this legacy which, in great part, shapes the vision, mission and goals of the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.

The 70,000 square foot field house provides permanent seating for 3500 people. The multi-purpose rooms, with a net of 3500 square feet, can be divided into four separately, equally sized rooms. These rooms also have a full-sized kitchen. The 12,000 square foot gymnasium has permanent bleacher seating for 500 with the additional availability for 800 more seats. The gymnasium seats 500 spectators and has one regulation and two practice basketball courts, with provisions for volleyball and wrestling. It can seat 1300 people in its assembly configuration. The Center also contains a dance studio, seminar/instructional rooms, multi-purpose rooms, training rooms, a weight and fitness room, shower/locker facilities, and administrative offices for the Center and the RCC Athletic Department.

Northeastern runs its indoor home track meets at the Center. It contains a 200 meter Mondo Super-X Oval Track, an eight lane 55-meter dash runway, provisions for high jump, long/triple jump and pole vault in addition to practice dash lanes and long/triple jump pits. The infield of the track contains four courts that can be used for basketball, tennis or volleyball. The bleachers can seat 3500 spectators, but with extra seating could hold over 5000 spectators. The Mondo Super-X surface is one of the fastest surfaces in the world. This was proven recently when the world record-holder in the 100 meter dash and 60 meter dash, Maurice Greene, set an American soil record in the 60 meter dash at the ever growing New Balance Invitational, a meet that showcases some of the world's elite track athletes to a large Boston audience.
