The 10th-ranked Huskies were upset by No. 21 Boston University, 2-0, on Sunday at Jack Barry Field in Cambridge. With the win, BU clinched the America East title. Northeastern falls to 14-3 on the season and 4-1 in America East play while BU improves to 11-5 and 5-0.
Husky goalie Diana Nelson stepped up and made 12 saves in the game but it wasn't enough as BU got 21 shots off. The Huskies only managed seven shots and Terrier goalie Erin Prediger only had to make one save for the shutout.
BU's Kara Rossi knocked in the game-winning goal in the first half and Pam Speuler added an insurance goal in the second half.
BU clinched the top seed and will host the America East Championship Nov. 5-7 at Jack Barry Field. With only one conference game remaining for both teams, Northeastern can only tie the Terriers in the conference standings and BU owns the tiebreaker (head-to-head competition).
The Huskies had won seven in a row before Sunday's loss. It was just NU's second time being shut out this season.
The Huskies have one regular season game remaining - a conference matchup at Maine - on Saturday, Oct. 30 in Orono. The Huskies then will move on to the America East tournament and try to win their fourth-straight title.
