| 2005 Schedule/Results James Madison 3, Northeastern 2 (OT)
The Northeastern field hockey team battled James Madison to overtime before dropping a 3-2 decision on Sunday in Harrisonburg, Va. in the regular-season finale for both teams. The game was a defensive battle from start to finish. The first half passed without either team breaking onto the scoreboard. Three minutes into the second half, the Dukes struck first, capitalizing on a penalty corner as Melissa Walls and Maureen Klingler set up Baillie Versfeld to break the scoreless tie. Two minutes later, Klingler tallied another assist and extended the JMU lead when she fed Melissa Stefaniak who connected from five yards in front of the goal. The Huskies soon struck back, though, getting on the board in the 45th minute when Whitney Shean scored unassisted to cut the Dukes' lead to 2-1. Just a minute later, NU tied the game when Ashley Webber assisted Stephanie Casper on the equalizer. The game was deadlocked for the rest of the second half, forcing sudden-victory overtime. Eight minutes into the extra frame, the Dukes got the win when Stefaniak broke away for the game-winning goal. The Huskies outshot the Dukes, 10-8, in the game. NU's Colleen Duffy and JMU's Lori Amico each recorded three saves. The Huskies finish the regular season with a 15-5 overall record and a 6-2 league record in their first season in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Huskies now travel to Norfolk, Va., where they are the second seed in the CAA Tournament. They have earned a first-round bye and will play a yet-to-be-determined opponent on Saturday in the conference semifinals. Field Hockey Box Score (Final)
