The Northeastern field hockey team lost its second consecutive game to a ranked opponent on Wednesday, falling, 5-2, to Boston College Wednesday evening at BC's Newton Campus Field.
For the third consecutive game this season, the Huskies got on the board first with an early goal. Against the Eagles, it was sophomore Ashley Bascetta who gave NU an early lead off of a penalty corner, scoring in the second minute with assists going to senior co-captain Sarah Eckhoff and junior assistant captain Ashley D'Ambra.
Once again, however, the Huskies could not hold the lead. Boston College's Caitlin Gillen tied the game at the 12:08 mark, and the Eagles got two more scores within two minutes of each other to take a two-goal lead by the 33:50 mark.
First-year Suzanne Hazelzet attempted to get the Huskies back in the game at the beginning of the second half, scoring her first collegiate goal less than three minutes into the second half to get the Huskies back within a goal at 3-2. Unfortunately for the Huskies, BC's Crystal Frates scored under four minutes later to give the Eagles a two-goal cushion once again. The team added another goal in the 58th minute to complete the scoring.
Northeastern sophomore goaltender Colleen Duffy made five saves while allowing five goals, while BC goalie Julia Berkowitz also made five saves but only allowed two balls to get past her.
After completing a three-game road trip to begin the season, the Huskies will finally return home to Sweeney Field on Friday, Sept. 8 at 2 p.m. against Providence, looking to get back into the win column.
