| The Northeastern field hockey team had its three-game winning streak and three-game shutout streak snapped on Wednesday evening as the Huskies fell to No. 9 Connecticut, 4-1, at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex in Storrs, Conn.
NU junior goaltender Liz Centofanti had her shutout streak snapped in the ninth minute, as UConn's Lizzy Peijs took a ball in front of the net and put it past the Husky goaltender at the 8:41 mark of the opening half. Centofanti's scoreless streak ended at 272:38, spanning all or part of five games.
Faced with a deficit for the first time in its last four games, Northeastern came back with four minutes remaining in the opening half. Junior Stephanie Casper retook control of the team scoring lead by scoring her eighth goal of the season in the 31st minute off a penalty corner. Assists on the corner went to senior co-captain Whitney Shean and junior assistant captain Ashley D'Ambra.
The NU Huskies attempted to take that momentum into the second half, but it was the home Husky team that came out strong with a goal only 71 seconds into the second half. UConn peppered Centofanti with four shots in a 31-second span at the beginning of the half, with Lauren Aird finally putting in the game-winning tally at the 36:11 mark off of a rebound of her own shot.
Aird then single-handedly put the game away for Connecticut, scoring her second and third goals of the game less than three minutes apart later in the half.
For the game, UConn held a 16-5 advantage in shots, constantly keeping the pressure on Centofanti and the NU defense. Centofanti made eight saves for the visitors, while UConn's Briana Koza allowed one goal while making three saves.
After Wednesday's game, the road does not get any easier for Northeastern as it continues its season-high five-game road trip. The Huskies travel to Bloomington, Ind. to take on the No. 11 Indiana Hoosiers Saturday at 1 p.m.
