The Northeastern field hockey team was defeated 2-1 in overtime by Northwestern in the season opener on Friday in Evanston, Ill.
The Wildcats were the first to strike, thanks to an Alex Quinn goal in the first half. Northeastern came back strong in the second, with a 15-5 shot advantage and a 6-1 advantage in penalty corners, and tied the score at one when preseason All-CAA team member Ashley Webber scored an unassisted goal.
The Huskies were able to keep the ball on the offensive side but couldn't seem to score again. Then, with just 23 seconds into overtime, Northwestern's Alex Quinn scored the game-winner, and the Wildcats walked away with the 2-1 victory.
The Huskies will play their second game of the season on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. (EST) againt Ball State, also at Lakeside Field.
