In the Huskies' home opener, Northeastern fell to No. 20 Boston University by a score of 3-2. As always between these two teams, the game was neck and neck until the very end.

The Terriers were the first to strike. At about halfway through the first half, Hayley Hamada converted a pass from Sarah Shute into the first goal of the game for BU, and her second of the season. Northeastern quickly put the offensive pressure back on, and at 25:16, senior Harriet Hoyer notched her third goal of the season and tied the game at one. Freshman Pam Aldridge assisted on the play.

Early in the second half, BU put the pressure on Northeastern's defensive end and were able to score twice in under two minutes. Hadley Adams found the upper left side of the net, thanks to a pass from Lizzie Perreault at 53:00. Then at 54:49, senior Sarah Shute got a shot past NU goalkeeper Liz Centofanti that put the Terriers on top 3-1.

The Huskies did not give up without a fight. Shifting the momentum against the Terriers, the Huskies played exceptional defense and heavily populated BU's defensive end for the remainder of the game. Stephanie Casper was responsible for some great defensive plays that prevented the Terriers from scoring, and Liz Centofanti made a number of diving saves. Overall, Centofanti earned six on the afternoon, bringing her season total to 35.

Then in the final minute of the regulation, Northeastern was awarded with a penalty corner, which was executed perfectly and easily converted into a goal. Taken by Ashley Webber, the corner was stopped by Ashley D'Ambra who set up Ashley Bascetta for a hard shot that sailed into the lower left hand corner of the goal to bring Northeastern within one.

The Huskies continued to put the pressure on BU, but were unable to score again before the clock ran out. With the loss, Northeastern drops to 2-4 on the season, while Boston University walked away with its fifth win. The Huskies resume action on Wednesday Sept. 19 in Providence to face the Friars at 7 p.m.

Before the start of today's game, Huskies goalkeeper Colleen Duffy beautifully performed the national anthem before the crowd of 250.
