| 2007 Schedule/Results William & Mary 1, Northeastern 0
The Northeastern field hockey team was defeated 1-0 by William & Mary on Friday in Williamsburg, Va. The Huskies shut down the Tribe's offense after the first half, but were unable to generate their own offense and lost by one goal for the fourth time this season. The lone goal of the game came as the result of William & Mary's second penalty corner. Senior midfielder Jes Kacerek took a shot that was blocked by NU goalkeeper, Liz Centofanti. Junior forward Lauren Giles grabbed the rebound and tried to sneak it into the goal but was thwarted by Centofanti. Finally after the third rebound, Rebecca Wagner quickly sent a pass to Jenna Cinalli who converted into her third tally of the season. Wagner was credited for her first assist of 2007. It looked as though the W&M had scored again, but the goal was redacted when a referee ruled the ball had been on the wrong side of sophomore Wesley Drew's stick. The first goal would be all the Tribe would need. Northeastern did create scoring opportunities later in the game, including some well executed penalty corners, and out-shot the Tribe 8-4. But W&M goalkeeper Gwen Hunter made six saves, including diving stops against Ashley D'Ambra and Ashley Bascetta, for her first shutout of the 2007 campaign. Bascetta took a Northeastern team-high two shots. With the loss, Northeastern drops to 3-5 on the season, and 5-3 all-time against William & Mary. The contest also marked the beginning of conference play for the two teams, both members of the Colonial Athletic Association. The Huskies will look to rebound on Sunday when they face CAA foe Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va., at 1 p.m.
