The field hockey team suffered a 3-0 defeat at Drexel on Friday in Philadelphia, Penn. Freshman forward Susan Ciufo scored two goals for the Dragons while senior Emily Horvat added one of her own to punch Drexel's ticket into the CAA postseason. The game marks only the second time the Huskies have been defeated by the Dragons.
Ciufo put the Dragons on the board early in the first half when she deflected a shot into the pads of Husky goalie Liz Centofanti's and then grabbed the rebound and shot it past Centofanti for what would eventually be the game-winner. Ciufo's first goal would be all the scoring done by the Dragons in the first.
In the second half, Ciufo, positioned perfectly in front of the Husky net, accepted a perfect pass from sophomore Jordan Freese and shot a one-timer into the cage to put the Dragons up 2-0. Horvat put the finishing touches on Drexel's effort when she found the net during a scramble in the circle after a Drexel penalty corner.
Despite the loss, Centofanti managed nine saves on the day, bringing her season total to 82.
With the loss the Huskies fall to 6-10 on the season (2-3 CAA). They continue their weekend action on Sunday at 1 p.m., when they face Hofstra in another CAA match at Shuart Stadium in Hempstead, N.Y.
