Boston, MA

Northeastern University field hockey coach Cheryl Murtagh has announced the Huskies' schedule for the 2008 season. Once again Northeastern plays a very competitive schedule, taking on five teams ranked in the Final STX/NFHCA Poll and three others who received votes in the poll and competed in the NCAA tournament.

Northeastern opens its campaign with three consecutive home games at Sweeney Field. The Huskies start off challenging Northwestern on Aug. 30 and then play host to Providence (Sept. 4) and Massachusetts (Sept. 7). The Huskies play two road games at Dartmouth and Boston University before closing out September with a homestand during which they’ll begin conference play, hosting William & Mary (Sept. 26) and Old Dominion (Sept. 28).

The team will host Stanford at Sweeney Field on Oct. 4 but then will spend the bulk of October on the road, traveling to New Hampshire and Harvard, and to CAA foes Delaware (Oct. 10) and Towson (Oct. 12). Trips to national semifinalist Connecticut (Oct. 15) and cross-town rival Boston College (Oct. 17) round out the road trip. The Huskies close out the month with conference matches against Drexel (Oct. 21) and Hofstra (Oct. 26) at Sweeney Field, and then head to James Madison for a matchup with the conference champion on Oct. 31. The team ends the regular season at Virginia Commonwealth on Nov. 2.

The Huskies’ main focus will be to qualify for the CAA tournament, which will again be held in Virginia Beach, Va., from Nov. 5-9.

Last season the Huskies went 9-12 on the season and reached a 4-4 mark in conference action. The team advanced to the CAA tournament and defeated Towson 3-2 in the quarterfinals before being shut out by Old Dominion in the semifinals.
