Huskies battle Harvard for Beanpot championship
Women's Hockey 2/9/10
The No. 9 Northeastern Huskies will look for a record 15th Beanpot title on Tuesday at No. 5 Harvard in the 32nd Women's Beanpot championship at the Bright Center at 8 p.m. The Huskies last made an appearance in the final in 2004, but have not won the tournament since 1998. Northeastern holds a 16-12 all-time record vs. the Crimson in the Beanpot, including an 11-6 mark in the final. Peter Pan will sponsor a free shuttle to the game for students, departing from Chicken Lou's at 6:30 p.m.

Huskies cruise past Crimson in Beanpot consolation
Men's Hockey 2/8/10
Through four different types of goals, Northeastern topped Harvard,
4-1, in the consolation round of the 58th Annual Beanpot Tournament at
the TD Garden on Monday evening. The victory over the Crimson marks the
Huskies’ 16th third-place finish in the Beanpot. It was also
Northeastern’s first win against Harvard since Feb. 12, 2007 in the
consolation bracket of the 55th Beanpot Tournament. Northeastern resumes Hockey East
play Friday, when it travels to the Mullins Center to take on
Massachusetts at 7 p.m.

Janning earns weekly CAA honors
Men's Basketball 2/8/10
Northeastern senior guard Matt Janning has been named the CAA Co-Player of the Week after averaging 17 points in a pair of road victories last week, the conference office announced Monday. Janning was NU's leading scorer in both victories, a 67-51 win at Delaware last Tuesday and a 75-55 triumph at Hofstra last Saturday. For the season, Janning is averaging 15.1 points a game. The Huskies, ranked a program-best No. 8 in this week's Mid-Major Top 25 poll, host Georgia State Wednesday at Matthews Arena at 7 p.m.

Towson downs Huskies 72-57
Women's Basketball 2/8/10
Shanae Baker-Brice scored 28 points, including going 13-for-16 from the free throw line in the second half as Towson defeated Northeastern 72-57 on Monday. The Tigers outscored the Huskies 21-9 in the final 7:30 minutes to seal the win. Brittany Wilson led Northeastern with 15 points and nine rebounds. Northeastern returns to action on Thursday February 11 taking on Drexel at 7 p.m.

Sulyma selected for defensive honors
Women's Hockey 2/8/10
Junior goaltender Leah Sulyma (Inuvik, Northwest Territories) was named
the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, as announced by
the conference office. Sulyma stopped 61 of 67 shots in two games last
week in addition to both shootout attempts in the opening round of the
Beanpot on Feb. 2. Sulyma has now taken home the honor three times this
season.

Huskies place third at the Battle of Beantown
Women's Track 2/6/10
In the spirit of early February in Boston, the Northeastern women’s
track & field team placed third it in its own version of a Beanpot
at the Battle of Boston on Saturday, Feb. 6 at Harvard University. The
Huskies were powered by three first-place finishes and 17 top three
showings. Northeastern continues its indoor season at Boston University next
Friday and Saturday at the Valentine Invitational. The women will compete on Friday, Feb. 12 starting at 1 p.m. while the men will have
their turn on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 9 a.m.

Northeastern powers past Hofstra 75-55
Men's Basketball 2/6/10
The Huskies opened the second half on a 20-3 and held Hofstra to seven second-half field goals as they ran away with a 75-55 victory over the Pride Saturday at the Mack Sports Complex in Hempstead, N.Y. The win is NU's third straight and 14th out of the last 15 contests. The Huskies also now take over sole possession of first place in the CAA with an 11-2 mark. Matt Janning led NU with 17 points. The team next plays Georgia State Wednesday at Matthews Arena at 7 p.m.
