Huskies drop Ottawa
In the second game of a seven-game tour in Canada, the Huskies knocked off the University of Ottawa 79-57 Wednesday night in Ottawa, Ontario. Juniors Matt Janning and Manny Adako each scored 15 points for NU. The Husky defense shined on the court, holding Ottawa to just three points in the third quarter. The Huskies next play defending Canadian national champion Carleton University Thursday night at 7 p.m. Huskies fans can keep track of the trip by reading team manager Matthew Holt's trip update.

Tip-Off Dinner Sept. 24
The Huskies will host the second annual Northeastern Men's Basketball Tip-Off Dinner on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at the Northeastern Alumni Center at 7 p.m. The dinner, sponsored by Mass Premier Courts (mpcourts.com), is open to the public at $75 per plate. This year's special guest will be Michael Litos, author of Cinderella: Inside the Rise of Mid-Major College Basketball, a book that featured the Colonial Athletic Association. Space is limited, so fans are encouraged to call Steve Scalzi in the basketball office at (617) 373-3292 for more information.

Huskies top Queens University, 69-59
Junior Matt Janning scored 19 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as the Huskies knocked off Queens University, 69-59, Monday night in Kingston, Ontario. The game was the first of seven exhibitions in Canada for the Huskies. Northeastern will next match up with the University of Ottawa on Wednesday in Ottawa, Ontario at 7 p.m.

Rhodes named new assistant coach
John Rhodes has been named an assistant coach for the Huskies, head coach Bill Coen announced Wednesday. Rhodes joins Northeastern from Ohio University, where he was associate head coach of the Bobcats. Rhodes brings 12 years of coaching experience to the Huskies. He also played professional basketball in Europe for eight years. Rhodes and the Huskies are preparing for their trip to Canada, where they will play seven exhibition games from Aug. 22-Sept. 3.

NU to play exhibition games in Canada
In preparation for the upcoming 2008-09 season, the Huskies will travel to Canada for an international tour of exhibition games against some of the best teams north of the United States. The Huskies will play seven games in all, four in Ontario and three in Quebec from Aug. 22 to Sept. 3. Northeastern will play an array of teams, including defending Canadian national champion Carleton University. Practice for the tour begins Thursday, Aug. 14 and will run through Aug. 21.

Barea, Lima compete at FIBA Tournament
Former Northeastern standout Jose Juan Barea and current Husky forward Vinny Lima both represented their respective countries at the 2008 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, which was held July 14-20 in Athens, Greece. Barea, representing Puerto Rico, helped lead his team to a fourth-place finish in the tournament, averaging 12.4 points and 2.6 assists. Lima, whose Cape Verde team did not advance past the preliminary round, played in two games, averaging 2.5 points and 2.5 rebounds in 38 minutes of action.
