BOSTON, MA -- Harvard overcame a 14-point deficit in the second half and defeated Northeastern in overtime, 80-75, at Cabot Gym Saturday.
Dan Clemente scored a career-high 32 points for the Crimson (4-5), who snapped a three-game losing streak. Marcus Blossom led the Huskies (4-4) with 22 points.
NU led throughout regulation until Harvard's Tim Hill forced overtime, making a three-pointer with 14 seconds left in regulation. Blossom had made a short jumper with 35 seconds left in the second half to give NU a 66-63 edge. He missed from long range as time expired in regulation.
In overtime, Damian Long gave the Crimson their first lead at 68-66 with 4:25 to go. Jean Bain tied it for the Huskies, but a layup by Paul Fisher gave Harvard the lead for good at 70-68 and 3:25 to play. Clemente then hit a three-pointer and another jumper to make it 75-69. He hit three of four free throws in the final 40 seconds to secure the win.
Fisher finished with 22 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for Harvard, while Hill added 12 points. NU's Harold Miller had 14 points, and teammates Lin Lattimore and Terry Kringe added 12 apiece.
The Huskies took control early on, jumping out to leads of 10-4 and 20-9 behind the hot shooting of Blossom and Kringe. Blossom had 13 points on five of seven shooting as NU took a 39-29 lead into halftime.
NU couldn't put Harvard away, however, despite extending its lead to 14 at 52-38 with 14:05 to play. The Crimson went on a 15-7 spurt to pull within six, 59-53, with 7:17 showing. A Kringe three-pointer extended the edge to nine again with 6:48 left. Harvard ended regulation with a 13-4 run.
