Northeastern 74, New Hampshire 67
Marcus Blossom scored 18 points to lead Northeastern to a 74-67 win over New Hampshire in an America East men’s basketball game at Cabot Gym Saturday.
The Huskies (5-7, 2-2) snapped a four-game losing streak, while UNH (2-10, 0-4) lost its 10th in a row.
The Wildcats used an 8-0 run to tie the game at 55 with 4:50 to play, but the Huskies responded with the next 10 points of the game for a comfortable 65-55 edge with 1:07 remaining. Terry Kringe had four of his six points on the night during the spurt and added an assist. NU made nine of 10 free throws in the final minute to secure the win.
NU appeared to be in control, maintaining its 10-point halftime edge early in the second half on baskets from Blossom and Harold Miller (15 points), who provided a spark with his return to the lineup after missing two games with a knee injury. The outside shooting of Andy Cavo (game-high 20 points) kept UNH close, however, and the Wildcats had a chance to take the momentum when NU’s Changa Adams was ejected at the 13:34 mark of the second half following a brief altercation with Ethan Cole. Will Chavis made a pair of technical free throws to trim the NU lead to three at 43-40, but on their ensuing possession the Wildcats turned the ball over. The Huskies held their poise and extended the lead to 48-40 with 10:52 remaining.
UNH jumped out to an early 10-3 lead behind a pair of three-pointers from Cavo. The Huskies then went on a 14-2 run to take a 17-12 edge with 8:30 to go in the first half. With the score tied at 23, the Huskies went on a 10-0 run to finish the half with a 33-23 lead. Blossom capped the spurt with a fallaway jumper in the final seconds before intermission. He had seven of his points in the first half.
Cole added 14 points and six assists for UNH, while Lin Lattimore had eight points off the bench for NU.
