Hartford 73, Northeastern 63
Hartford scored the last nine points of the game and defeated Northeastern 73-63 in an America East menās basketball game at Cabot Gym Friday. With Hartford up 64-63, Chris Eames made two free throws for the last of his game-high 20 points and put the Hawks ahead by three with 1:15 to play. Terry Kringe then had a chance to tie the game for NU, but his three-point shot was short and bounced out of bounds. Riyad King made one of two free throws for Hartford and then made a clean steal from Harold Miller on NUās next possession. King was fouled again after the steal and sank two foul shots for a 69-63 lead that put the game away with 24 seconds left. It was the seventh loss in the last eight games for NU, which dropped to 5-11, 2-6 in league play. Hartford improved to 6-10, 4-4. Lin Lattimore led the Huskies with 13 points, while Kringe had 12 and Marcus Blossom added 11 points and five assists. Justin Bailey netted 17 points for Hartford. There were five ties in the first six minutes of the second half, the last of which was 43-43 after a Blossom free throw with 13:13 left. Hartford went on a 14-5 run over the next five and a half minutes and staked a 57-48 edge with 8:43 remaining. The Hawks couldnāt shake the Huskies, however, as NU answered with a 10-2 run capped by a Miller three-pointer that cut the lead to one at 59-58 with 5:03 showing. After Darrick Jackson made a three for Hartford, the Huskies got within one two more times, but Kringeās miss was the only chance to tie the game. The game was tight throughout. The first half had five lead changes in the first 10 minutes before Hartford made a mini run. With NU up 19-18 and 9:45 to play, the Hawks got six points from Eames in a 12-4 spurt that made it 30-23 with 2:54 to go before intermission. NU got within three by scoring five of the last seven points of the half and trailed 32-29 at the break. Eames was four of five from the floor and had 12 of his 20 points in the first half. Hartford has now won seven of its last eight games against NU.
