| 1999-2000 Schedule/Results Vermont 77, Northeastern 68
Peper’s low-post partner Trevor Gaines added 17 points and 18 rebounds for the Catamounts, who won for the ninth time in their last 10 games in improving to 15-10, 10-6 in America East play. Vermont, 90-62 winners at Boston University on Thursday, completed their first-ever Boston sweep of BU and NU. The Huskies lost for the sixth time in their last eight games and dropped to 4-11 in the conference, 6-19 overall. It was UVM’s first win over the Huskies in Boston since Jan. 4, 1996. Peper (8-12) and Gaines (6-12) were getting easy baskets and controlled the inside for the Catamounts, while the Huskies got little production from primary big men George Aygar, Tyrone Hammick and Changa Adams. Aygar had five points, but Hammick and Adams failed to score. Freshman Toby Brittian netted a career-high 27 points for the Huskies and Marcus Blossom added 10. Guards Tobe Carberry (14 points) and Tony Orciari (11) also were in double figures for Vermont. The Catamounts extended a 16-point halftime lead to 21, their largest of the game, on a Gaines dunk that made it 44-23 with 16:46 left to play. NU cut the deficit to 12 with a 13-4 surge capped by a Dwayne Barnes dunk with 12:55 left that made it 48-36. UVM quickly pushed the lead back to 21, however, using a 12-3 run to make it 60-39 with 9:56 showing. Down 69-50 with 5:34 left, the Huskies slowly got closer in the final minutes as the Catamounts committed five of their 21 turnovers and missed some free throws. Brittian’s layup with 48 seconds left capped a 16-4 NU run that cut the UVM edge to 73-66. The Huskies got no closer. Brittian finished with 20 points in the second half and added six rebounds and five steals in the game. Vermont never trailed, jumping out to an 11-2 lead with 16:17 to go in the first half. The Huskies got within three, trailing 12-9, but the Catamounts used a 20-6 run over a stretch of seven minutes to open up a 32-15 edge with 5:24 left. Peper started the spurt with a fadeaway jumper that made him the 23rd 1000-point scorer in UVM history. The Catamounts took a 36-20 lead into intermission. Vermont clinched at least fifth place in the conference standings with the win. VISITORS: Vermont 15-10, 10-6
