| Redshirt junior Marcus Barnes and sophomore Jose Juan Barea each scored 27 points as Northeastern pulled away from GT Express in the final minutes in a 97-86 exhibition win Thursday night at Solomon Court.
Making his Husky debut, Barnes was 9-of-14 from the floor, including 5-of-9 from three-point land. Barea picked up right where he left off last year, making 11 of 16 field goal attempts while dishing out a game-high 11 assists.
The Express closed to within 78-77 on a free throw by Shane Nicely with 5:34 remaining, but NU went on a 9-0 run to put the game away. Senior Cornellius Wright hit a pair of free throws, senior Javorie Wilson nailed a three and Barnes and Barea each made a lay-up in the stretch.
Senior Sylbrin Robinson chipped in 14 points while Wilson added 12. Robinson and Wright each pulled down nine rebounds.
GT Express was led by Robby Collum's 19.
