Four Huskies honored at CAA Championship Banquet

Four Northeastern University men’s basketball players were honored at Thursday night’s CAA Men’s Basketball Championship Banquet in Richmond, Va.

Sophomore captain Matt Janning, of Watertown, Minn., was named to the CAA All-Conference second team the CAA All-Academic second team. Freshman Chaisson Allen, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., was named to the CAA All-Rookie team. Sophomore Nkem Ojougboh, of Scottsdale, Ariz., was named to the CAA All-Academic first team. Sophomore Baptiste Bataille, of Ferin, France, was named to the CAA All-Academic second team.

Janning, who is majoring in Management at Northeastern, leads the Huskies in scoring at 16.4 points a game and, with 846 career points, is already in the top 50 in school history in points. His scoring average is third-best in the CAA. In 29 games this season, Janning, who was the CAA’s Rookie of the Year last season, is also averaging 3.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists a game. He is currently on a 17-game double-digit scoring streak, which is the longest streak in the CAA this season. He has nine 20-point games this season and is averaging 21.8 points over 10 televised games.

Allen came to Northeastern last fall and jumped right into the starting lineup. He made an immediate impact by posting a double-double (11 points, 10 rebounds) in his first collegiate game (against Illinois Nov. 11) and followed that up by recording a conference-best seven steals at Maryland Nov. 15 which later earned him CAA Co-Rookie of the Week honors. He is second in the CAA in steals and leads all CAA rookies in assists. He is also second among CAA rookies in rebounding. Over 29 games this season, he is averaging 9.1 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists a game.

Ojougboh, who is majoring in Marketing at Northeastern, is in his first season playing for the Huskies after sitting out the 2006-07 campaign after transferring from Texas-San Antonio. He is averaging 10.3 points and a team-best 6.7 rebounds for Northeastern.

Bataille, who is majoring in Earth & Environmental Sciences at Northeastern, has played in 26 games this season for the Huskies as the backup point guard and is averaging 2.6 points and 1.2 assists a game.

The Huskies finished the regular season 13-16, 9-9 in the CAA. Northeastern has earned the sixth seed in the CAA Tournament and will play No. 11 James Madison Friday night at the Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, Va. at 8:30 p.m.
