| 2007-08 Schedule/Results Northeastern to play Holy Cross in BracketBuster game
The sixth annual O’Reilly ESPNU BracketBusters event, a two-day men’s college basketball extravaganza pitting potential NCAA Tournament hopefuls against each other on Feb. 22-23, will feature 14 nationally televised games--on either ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN360.com or ESPN Classic--selected from a pool of 100 teams.
Though Northeastern was not selected for a television game, the matchup with Holy Cross affords the Huskies the opportunity to take on one of Patriot League’s best teams. The Crusaders, who are currently 11-9 this season, won the Patriot League championship in 2006-07 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
This will be Northeastern’s third appearance in the BracketBuster event and the Huskies are 2-0, defeating Rider 92-79 during the 2005-06 season and beating Maine 71-61 during the 2006-07 season. Both games were at Matthews Arena. This is Northeastern’s first BracketBuster game on the road.
This will be the 17th all-time meeting between Northeastern and Holy Cross with the Crusaders leading the series 12-4. The two teams last met on Dec. 30, 2005 when the Crusaders came away with a 59-44 victory at Solomon Court. The Huskies last beat Holy Cross on Jan. 9, 1989, a 102-94 win at Matthews Arena.
As part of the BracketBuster agreement, Northeastern will play a home game with Holy Cross next season.
The Huskies, who are on a two-game winning streak, are 9-12 on the season, 5-6 in the CAA, and will host Old Dominion this Wednesday at Matthews Arena at 7 p.m.
