Northeastern Hall of Famer Walsh passes
Francis X. "Inga" Walsh, Class of 1953 and one of the original six Northeastern Athletics Hall of Fame members, passed away on June 29 at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. A two-sport letterman in men's basketball and baseball, Walsh was the first dominant player in Northeastern men's basketball history, becoming the first Husky to score 1,000 points.

Huskies invited to Diamond Head Classic
The Huskies will be spending Christmas in Hawai'i as they have been invited to play in the inaugural Diamond Head Classic at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu, Hawai’i from Dec. 22-25. Joining NU in the field are College of Charleston, Saint Mary’s, SMU, UNLV, USC, Western Michigan and Hawai’i, which will serve as tournament host. Northeastern, under fourth-year head coach Bill Coen, is coming off a successful 19-13 campaign and its first postseason victory in 25 years.

Rhodes named head coach at Ohio Northern
Northeastern men's basketball assistant coach John Rhodes has been named the head coach of the men's basketball team at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio. Rhodes, who joined the Huskies last season, worked tirelessly with the team's forwards, and helped lead the team to a 19-13 record and its first postseason victory in 25 years.

NU enjoys a remarkable 2008-09 season
The Huskies, under third-year head coach Bill Coen, continued their ascent up the CAA ranks in the 2008-09 season. They saw a five-win improvement from the previous season, matched their best-ever CAA record with 12 wins, tied for second in all of Division I in true road victories with 11 and reached postseason for just the second time over the last 18 seasons. Add in historic non-conference victories at Providence and Indiana and the Huskies clearly are on the rise.

Allen's 26 not enough in NU loss to UTEP
Chaisson Allen scored a career-high 26 points, but the Huskies took a 75-66 loss to UTEP in the quarterfinals of the College Basketball Invitational, Monday night in El Paso, Texas. Allen was 10-for-18 from the field and added a team-high seven rebounds. Matt Janning added 16 points and Nkem Ojougboh chipped in 13. The Huskies end the season with a successful 19-13 record that included wins over Providence, Indiana and VCU as well as their first postseason victory since 1984.
