Barea, James earn weekly conference honors Jan. 31, 2005 Boston, Mass.Junior guard Jose Juan Barea and freshman forward Shawn James were named America East co-player and rookie of the week, respectively, the conference office announced Monday, Jan. 31. Barea earns the honor for the fifth time in his career, while it is the third such accolade for James.
Barea averaged 21.0 points, 6.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week for Northeastern. In the Huskies' 65-56 win over Stony Brook, Barea was the only NU player in double figures, tallying 25 points, and added five assists and four rebounds. He followed that up with a 17-point, eight-assist, three-rebound effort in Northeastern's 69-59 victory at Binghamton.
James averaged 10.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.0 blocks last week for the Huskies. Against Binghamton, he scored 14 points, pulled down five rebounds and blocked six shots, including his school-record-breaking 68th of the season. James contributed seven points, seven boards and four rejections in NU's win over the Seawolves.
Northeastern, which has won six of its last seven games and sits in a tie with Boston University for second place in America East, takes to the road Wednesday, Feb. 2, when it faces New Hampshire at 7 p.m.
