Barea, James recognized by CollegeInsider.com March 8, 2005 Boston, Mass.Junior guard Jose Juan Barea was named to CollegeInsider.com's Mid-Major All-America Team for the second year in a row, while freshman forward Shawn James earned Freshman All-America honors from the Web site. This announcement comes a week after head coach Ron Everhart was named America East Coach of the Year by CollegeInsider.com.
Barea, a first team all-conference honoree, is second in America East in scoring (22.4) and first in assists (7.3). He is the only player in the nation to rank in the NCAA top 10 in both categories. Earlier this season, Barea became Northeastern's all-time leading three-point shooter.
James leads America East and is second in the nation in blocked shots (5.4). He also ranks second in the conference in rebounding (7.6). James, the 2004-05 America East rookie and defensive player of the year, has recorded 125 blocks this season, a figure which is almost twice as much as the previous school record.
The second-seeded Huskies will try to claim their eighth America East championship Saturday, March 12, when they take on top-seeded Vermont at Patrick Gym in Burlington, Vt. The game will tip off at 11:30 a.m. and be shown live on ESPN.
