Barea named America East Co-Player of the Week

Junior guard Jose Juan Barea was named America East Co-Player of the Week for the second straight week, the conference office announced Monday, Feb. 7. It is the third time this season and the sixth time in his career Barea has received the honor.

Barea averaged 32.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists for the Huskies, who went 1-1 last week. In a 73-67 win over New Hampshire, Barea scored a season-high 36 points, including 25 in the second half, on 13-of-25 shooting, and added seven assists and five boards. The 25 points in a half established a new school record, while his 13 made field goals are a career high.

Barea posted 28 points, five rebounds and three assists Saturday against Vermont, but it was not enough as the Huskies fell, 72-64.

In those two games, Barea shot 47.1 percent (24-for-51) from the field, 45.0 percent (9-for-20) from three-point land and 100.0 percent (7-for-7) from the free throw line.

The Huskies host Hartford on Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m.
