Northeastern Barea named to NABC all-district team

Barea named to NABC all-district team

Junior guard Jose Juan Barea was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Division I All-District 1 Second Team for the second year in a row. The announcement came Friday, Feb. 18. Barea is now eligible for the NABC Division I All-America Team.

Barea leads America East in assists (7.1), ranks second in scoring (21.6), and is fourth in steals (2.0). He is the only player who appears in the NCAA top 10 in points and assists per game.

Joining Barea on the second team are Vermont's T.J. Sorrentine, Massachusetts' Rashaun Freeman and Connecticut's Charlie Villanueva and Rashad Anderson. The first team consists of Boston College's Craig Smith and Jared Dudley, Vermont's Taylor Coppenrath, Connecticut's Josh Boone and Providence's Ryan Gomes.

The all-district teams are voted on by members of the NABC, which currently numbers almost 5,000 university and college men's basketball coaches.

Northeastern (17-8, 13-3 America East) hosts New Hampshire on Thursday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m.
