Senior Jose Juan Barea has received another major honor, being named the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Player of the Year, as announced Thursday by the popular college basketball website.
The award is one more in a string of praise given to Barea by the website, as he is a three-time Mid Major All-America recipient and was a member of the website’s freshman All-America squad in 2003. He was also honored last week as the CollegeInsider.com CAA Player of the Year.
Barea and Hofstra junior Loren Stokes were the two representatives of the CAA on the Mid-Major All-America squad. Also being honored by CollegeInsider.com, sophomore Shawn James was one of 20 players labeled a Defensive All-American.
Barea currently ranks second in the nation in assists and among the top 20 in scoring, while James currently holds the NCAA’s all-time single season blocked shots average record. His 196 blocks rank second on the NCAA single season list.
