Senior Jose Juan Barea has been named the CollegeInsider.com Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Year, announced Wednesday afternoon. It is the second award Barea has received from the popular college basketball website, as he was named a Preseason Mid-Major All-American prior to the season.

Barea is the CAA’s leading scorer and assists man, averaging 21.4 points per game and 8.4 assists per game. Those numbers are also good for second and 18th in the nation, respectively. In Northeastern’s inaugural season in the CAA, Barea led the Huskies to a 17-10 overall record and 12-6 conference record through the regular season.

The other CAA awards presented by CollegeInsider.com were presented to junior Loren Stokes of Hofstra, who was named the league’s Most Valuable Player and UNC Wilmington head coach Brad Brownell, who was named the CAA Coach of the Year.

Northeastern will face James Madison in the first round of the CAA Conference Championships on Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
