Barea named finalist for Bob Cousy Award
Jan. 14, 2005
Boston, Mass.

Junior Jose Juan Barea was named one of 19 finalists for the 2005 Bob Cousy Award, given to the nation's best point guard. The announcement came Thursday, Jan. 13 from the Basketball Hall of Fame, which presents the award.

Barea leads America East in assists (6.79 per game) and is second in scoring (21.7 points per game). He is one of only two players to rank in the top 20 in the country in those two categories. The other is Marquette's Travis Diener, another finalist.

A two-time all-conference selection, Barea recently became Northeastern's career three-point leader.

A total of 19 finalists from all three divisions were selected. The inaugural award was presented last year to Jameer Nelson of Saint Joseph's.

The award, named for the Hall of Fame guard for the Boston Celtics, will be presented in St. Louis on April 4.
