| Barea named a finalist for Cousy Award presented by The Hartford
Barea has established himself as a premier point guard, as he finished the 2004-05 season ranked in the top 10 in both scoring (eighth) and assists (fifth), becoming the first player to do so since 1997-98. This season, he has posted similar numbers, only he is currently the country’s leader in assists and among the top 20 in scoring. Barea is one of just five active players in Division I to record 2,000-career points and ranks among the all-time leaders in scoring, assists, 3-point field goals made and steals at Northeastern.
For the first time in the history of the Award, beginning February 3 fans will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite candidate online at www.cousyaward.com and register to win an opportunity to serve with Hall of Famers Bob Cousy, Jim Calhoun, Dean Smith and others on the Blue Ribbon committee assembled to select the winner. The lucky fan will participate in a roundtable committee discussion of the Award Finalists and then cast his or her symbolic ‘vote’ (representing the Finalist receiving the most online votes). The 2006 Bob Cousy Award presented by The Hartford winner will be announced at the NCAA Men’s Final Four in Indianapolis, Indiana on Monday April 3.
