Junior point guard Jose Juan Barea was praised for his play this summer by ESPN college basketball analyst Andy Katz in the latest issue of ESPN The Magazine.

In a section entitled "Up and Down Game: Four Ballers Recast Their Reps This Summer - For Better Or Worse," Katz writes, "The six-foot point guard led Puerto Rico to a surprise silver at the World Championship for Young Men qualifiers, averaging 24.8 ppg and 7.2 apg. 'He plays the international game so well,' says Minnesota's Dan Monson, a USA assistant. In an 11-point loss to the Americans in the finals, he rountinely split double teams and finished strong to the hole."

Along with Vermont's Taylor Coppenrath, Barea was one of two America East players to unanimously earn first team all-conference honors last season. He finished second in the conference in scoring (20.7 ppg) and assists (5.8 apg).

ESPN The Magazine was established in 1998 and has a subscriber base of approximately 1.75 million.
