James named CAA Co-Player of the Week Feb. 6, 2006 Boston, Mass.Sophomore Shawn James has been named the Colonial Athletic Association
Co-Player of the Week alongside Gary Neal of Towson, announced on Monday,
Feb. 6, 2006. James turned his third career triple-double on Saturday
afternoon in a 79-74 victory over Virginia Commonwealth at Matthews Arena.
James scored a career-high 26 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and matched a
season-high with 10 blocked shots, as he played 37 minutes to lead the
Huskies to victory over VCU. He had his best shooting night of the season as
well, converting 10-of-13 shots (76.9 percent) from the floor. He also
turned in 13 points, 11 rebounds and eight blocks in Northeasternıs 84-69
win over William & Mary on Thursday night. Northeasternıs all-time leading
shot blocker, James currently leads the nation in blocks, averaging 6.4 per
game. He averages 11.6 points per game and 7.6 rebounds.
The award is Jamesı first conference honor in the CAA, as he was named
America East Rookie of the Week on four occasions last season, as well as
America East Rookie of the Year, America East Defensive Player of the Year
and an America East All-Conference second team selection. It is the second
weekly honor for the Northeastern menıs basketball team this season, as
senior Jose Juan Barea was named CAA Co-Player of the Week on Nov. 22.
The Huskies return to action on Thursday night as they travel to
Philadelphia, Pa. to take on Drexel in a CAA matchup beginning at 7:30 p.m.
